Baseball:
Not a bad afternoon for the South Hills baseball program.
Luke Bauer, Christian Gomez and Matt Moreno combined on a one-hit shutout during Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Servite.
The Friars entered the contest as the No. 2 ranked program in the state by MaxPreps, and No. 1 in Monday’s CIF-SS Division 2 poll.
Bauer went five scoreless to earn the win.
He allowed just a fifth-inning double to Miles Scott.
Bauer issued a pair of walks and struck out four Servite batters.
Gomez and Moreno provided one scoreless and hitless inning in relief.
Neither walked a batter and they each registered one strikeout apiece.
South Hills scored in the bottom of the fifth as Bauer doubled and later scored on an error by the Servite pitcher.
Isaiah Camacho got the loss after allowing an unearned run on one hit over his two innings of work.
Paul Vazquez and Steven Jimenez both singled to account for the other two SHHS base hits.
Up next: South Hills will host South Pasadena on Friday at 2:30.
