College Baseball:
San Bernardino Valley College was six outs from its first Inland Empire Athletic Conference victory of the 2024 season.
And it was happening on the field of the defending IEAC champs (Chaffey College).
Trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Panthers rallied for eight runs and claimed a 14-7 victory.
They picked up the three-game sweep of San Bernardino by a combined score of 44-16.
Chaffey got six runs on 10 hits and five walks against Noe Delgado in six innings.
It only took 1 1/3 innings to score seven runs on seven hits off of Vincent Rivera and Thaddeus Layne.
Former RCHS ace Jacob Billings hit a three-run blast in the fifth to pull the Panthers to within 6-5.
Two innings later, Billings sac fly tied the game at 6-6.
Ryder Young went 3-for-4, with a walk, two doubles, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
PJ Torrez doubled twice, the second of which was a two-run double in the eight-run eighth inning.
Christian Mosqueda went 4-for-5, with a walk, double, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Javier Mendez walked, singled twice, scored and had an RBI.
AJ Hurtado singled, doubled and scored.
Yahir Ramirez walked, singled, scored a pair of runs and had one RBI.
Andrew Rodriguez walked, singled, scored and drove in one run.
Preston Allen went 2-for-5 and scored two runs.
Damian Hernandez got roughed up for five runs on nine hits over his 2 2/3 innings.
Hernandez walked one and struck out five.
Brian Garcia earned the win, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits.
Garcia issued one walk and fanned three SBVC batters.
Jason Del Villar went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and three RBIs.
Ian Burns singled twice, doubled and scored.
Cy Robertson doubled and scored twice.
Cesar Ortega singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Brandon Alvarez walked and singled twice.
Andrew Griffin singled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.
In the three-game sweep, the Chaffey bats pounded out 44 runs on 59 hits.
Up next: The Panthers travel to Desert on Tuesday at 2.
