Boys Basketball:
Damien earned its spot in the CIF State Division 1 Southern California Regional Semifinal on Saturday.
The Spartans defeated Redondo Union, 74-54, on Thursday night in La Verne.
Damien used a 22-8 run in the second quarter and took a 42-24 lead into the break.
Nate Garcia had a game-high 22 points.
Xavier Clinton hit three 3-pointers and finished with 19 points.
Eli Garner chipped in with 14 points, and Jacob Allen had 13, including three 3’s.
Devin Ringer led Redondo Union with 15 points, and SJ Madison had 10.
Up next: The Spartans travel to Bellflower on Saturday to take on No. 1 St. John Bosco at 7 in the semifinal.
The Braves (25-7) edged Windward, 65-63, on Thursday night.
The Damien-Bosco game also features the last two Damien basketball coaches going head-to-head, as Mike LeDuc and Matt Dunn square off.
Mater Dei and Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks meet in the other So Cal Regional semifinal.
