George Peterson Scores Twice, Including Once in Overtime to Lead Maranatha to a 2-1 Victory Over Woodlake in First Round of CIF State Division 5 Playoffs

Maranatha has now gone 46 days without a loss.

The Minutemen, fresh off securing the first CIF-SS Division 6 championship in program history, hosted Woodlake in Tuesday’s first round of the CIF State Division 5 playoffs.

George Peterson scored in the first half to give MHS a 1-0 lead.

He got a rebound from a Caleb Freeman shot, and he punched into the back of the net.

Woodlake would score late in the second half to send the game to overtime.

Five minutes into overtime period, Peterson extended the Maranatha season with a golden goal.

MHS had six shots on goal, and another six that sprayed around the frame of the goal.

Lorenzo Rodriguez blocked two shots in goal for the Minutemen.

Up next: The Minutemen will host St. Pius on Thursday night at 5.

The Warriors (20-4) edged New West Charter, 1-0, in their first-round contest.
