Girls Wrestling:

The San Gabriel Valley area had a huge showing at Saturday’s CIF-SS Masters Meet in Palm Springs.

Northview and Walnut finished first and fourth, respectively, with a combined five champions.

The Vikings’ Faith Bartoszek (140) and Andrea Mateo (155) both claimed individual titles, while Samantha Rivera (115) and Mia Hooper (125) placed second.

Bartoszek pinned her first three opponents, and then defeated Tora Altersten (Torrance), 3-0, in the 140-pound final.

Mateo had quite the run to a 155-pound gold title.

The Northview senior pinned top-seeded Mariah Rodriguez (Barstow) in the semifinal, and she would go on to claim a 5-1 victory over second-seeded Diara Pomares (Hemet) in the final.

The Mustangs’ Anaya Falcon (105), Deandra Meza (110) and Jasmine Macias (130) each won their respective weight classes.

Falcon pinned her first two opponents, won via tech fall in the semifinal, and she was awarded a final-round victory over Santa Ana’s Alicia Serratos by injury default.

Meza had a first-round bye, a major decision and then a 6-4 victory over Sarah Pinedo (Orange Vista).

Macias couldn’t have been more dominant.

The Walnut senior reeled off four consecutive pins, including a final-round stick of Foothill’s Gwen Jewell in 12 seconds.

Glendora’s Samantha Sachs (125) became the first Tartans’ female to win a Masters title.

One of her coaches, Hayden Scarborough, is the lone GHS male to accomplish that feat, and he would go on to place fourth at state back in 2011.

On her path to a title, Sachs won via tech fall, two pins and then a 6-3 victory over top-seeded Christina Osorio of Downey.

Chino’s Tilly Kakuk secured a 120-pound title from the gold bracket.

Kakuk had three consecutive pins, including a semifinal stick of top-seeded Ysabella Hinojosa (Northview).

Kakuk claimed a 6-0 victory over Walnut’s Eliana Garcia in the final.

Northview will be sending an area-best six competitors.

Ryleigh Hayes (100), Samantha Rivera (115), Mia Hooper (125), Faith Bartoszek (140), Trinity Palumbo (145) and Andrea Mateo (155).

The Walnut contingency includes Sienna Montanez (100), Anaya Falcon (106), Deandra Mesa (110), Eliana Garcia (110) and Jasmine Macias (130).

Ayala, San Dimas and San Marino have two qualifiers apiece.

The Bulldogs’ BK Martinez (110) and Tati Chavarin (170), SDHS’ Jade Seitz (170) and Charlene Smith (235), and the Titans Malia Manibog (100) and Leah Lopez (105) will all be competing inside the Mechanics Bank Arena.

West Covina’s Juelz Taylor is believed to be the Bulldogs first female wrestler to quality for state in nearly a decade, and she placed second after two pins and a decision victory.

Taylor fell to top-seeded Zahra Stewart in the 120-pound title bout.

Ayala’s Martinez had three consecutive pins before falling to top-seeded Sophia Cornish (Tesoro), 4-1, in the 110-pound gold bracket championship.
