Girls Wrestling:
One day after the boys completed their CIF-SS Masters Meet in Palm Springs, the southern section’s girls will be on the mat in just a few hours.
The 14 weight classes have blue and gold brackets, and every competitor today at Palm Springs High School has the obvious hope of punching their ticket for next week’s CIF State Championships in Bakersfield.
The top-four in each gold and blue bracket will earn that competitor a trip to the Mechanics Bank Arena.
Northview’s Ysabella Hinojosa (120), Mia Hooper (125) and Faith Bartoszek (140) have some momentum, as each of the Vikings’ trio secured CIF-SS Northern Division titles last weekend.
San Dimas heavyweight Charlene Smith is expected to earn her spot in Bakersfield.
Glendora’s Sam Sachs (125), who didn’t start wrestling until the ninth grade, just won her third consecutive title last weekend.
The GHS junior is one of the favorites to contend for a title today and next week.
There are 64 girls either within or near the 210 Prep Sports coverage zone today.
