Girls Athlete of the Week:
Charlene Smith had quite a memorable week.
Last Saturday, she secured her third consecutive Valle Vista League individual title in as many tries.
Fast forward a week, and the San Dimas heavyweight found herself in the title match of the CIF-SS Northern Division Individuals.
And unlike 2022-23, Smith wasn’t going to settle for second place.
After a first-round bye, the 235-pounder claimed a tech fall victory (16-0) in round two.
Smith would then reel off three consecutive pins to secure her first individual championship.
Up next: Smith and the rest of the qualifiers from all of the CIF-SS sites will compete at this coming weekend’s two-day Masters Meet in Palm Springs.
Second: Smith tech fall (16-0) over Janessa Gallardo (Fullerton)
Quarterfinal: Smith pinned Teagan Moise (Camarillo) at 2:56.
Semifinal: Smith pinned second-seeded Izzy Mandel (Etiwanda) at 3:50.
Championship: Smith pinned La Lomie Deramus of Hillcrest at 5:54.

Baseball: Brock Foulds had a huge impact in Thursday’s 3-0 victory at Glendora. The Rancho Cucamonga junior provided six scoreless innings and struck out six. At the plate, Foulds went 2-for-4, with a run and a single. And it was his two-run double in the top of the sixth inning that gave the Cougars a […]

College Baseball: Two former Pasadena High School pitchers combined to shut down the Rio Hondo College bats on Friday. Photos by Beth Oualline Baseball: The only thing better than tossing a shutout is completing that feat against a rival. And that’s exactly what San Dimas’ Jude Favela did on Thursday. He tossed a six-hit shutout in a 7-0 victory at Bonita. Favela walked three and fanned four BHS batters. Of Favela’s 99 pitches, 61 […]
Baseball: The only way to get prepared for Baseline League play and the postseason is to schedule games against southern section powers. And year in and year out, Warren is one of the better programs in the southern sections, led by their longtime coach, Scott Pearson. Los Osos traveled to Downey, and they were locked […]
Photo by Amanda Lin Thanks to Maranatha tennis for this report: Boys Tennis: Maranatha’s first match on Tuesday at San Gabriel was a beatdown that the Minutemen wouldn’t soon forget. For most of the team, it was the first competitive tennis match they’ve played in. Young … inexperienced … even clueless at times … are […]
