Maddie Smith Scored 33 Points, Including Late 3-Pointer to Force OT; Flintridge Prep Secures 68-61 Victory Over Calabasas in D-2AA Opener

Girls Basketball:

Flintridge Prep almost saw their 22-game win streak and their season come to an end on Thursday night.

The Wolves trailed late in regulation to their visitors from Calabasas.

But Maddie Smith played the role of hero by hitting a crazy 3-pointer with 12 seconds to play to force overtime.

And Prep would secure a 68-61 victory in OT.

Smith, who just surpassed the 1,000-point mark in just her sophomore year had a season-high 33 points.

To their credit, Calabasas actually outscored Flintridge Prep, 33-22, in the second and third periods.

But the Wolves found a way to extend their season, and their win streak to 23 games.

Akemi Fu chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Pressley Huie contributed 10 points in the win.

Jocelynn Townsend had a team-high 21 points for Calabasas.

And the Coyotes got 13 points from Erin Topacio and 12 from Maddy Touro.

Up next: The Wolves host South Pasadena on Saturday night.

The Tigers (25-4) defeated Glendora, 56-52, at SPHS.
