Girls Basketball:

You had to be there to believe it.

San Dimas trailed their visitors from La Salle by 20 points (31-11) at the half in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

But something Gary Jackson said to his players during the break, and their ability to carry out that message turned into something magical for the Saints.

Kamora Fletcher’s putback at the buzzer capped an incredible comeback, and San Dimas claimed a 44-43 victory.

It’s the program’s first Division 1 playoff win in school history.

It was also a showdown between the 35th (La Salle) and 151st (San Dimas) ranked programs in the state by MaxPreps.

SDHS outscored La Salle, 33-12, in the second half.

Fletcher scored all nine of her points in the decisive fourth quarter, as San Dimas outscored La Salle, 19-7.

Jaelyn Ramos led SDHS with 13 points, and her ‘and one’ gave the Saints a 42-41 lead with less than a minute to play.

La Salle’s four-year stud, Audrey Chen, hit a jumper with 12 seconds to play and La Salle regained a one-point (43-42) advantage.

After a loose ball, and a missed shot, however, Fletcher got to live out every basketball player’s dream.

In fact, 20 minutes after the game, and Fletcher still hadn’t processed what she had just done.

Chen scored 13 points in her final game for Scott Wiard and his remarkably successful program.

Casey Higgins and Kaden Cortes both contributed 10 points apiece for the Lancers.

Cortes had both of the Lancers’ 3-pointers.

Higgins was hurt twice late in the game, and her absence was something San Dimas was able to take advantage of on the boards.

Janessa Rodriguez and Olivia Romero scored seven points apiece for the Saints.

Priscilla Romero chipped in with six points in the win.

Up next: The Saints will travel to Oxnard on Saturday night.

The Yellowjackets (23-7) picked up a 75-63 victory at Village Christian.
