Miles Romero’s Header w/10 Minutes to Play Leads Maranatha to a 1-0 Victory Over Windward in CIF-SS Division 6 Opener

Boys Soccer:

Maranatha earned a spot in the Friday’s second round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

The Minutemen edged visiting Windward, 1-0, on Wednesday evening.

With 10 minutes to play, Sawyer Throop’s free-kick from 35 yards out found the head of Luca Youssefian.

Youssefian’s header flew towards the back post, where his teammate, Miles Romero headed it in past the outstretched arms of the Windward goalkeeper, and into the back of the net.

MHS goalie Lorenzo Rodriguez had four saves in pitching a shutout.

Up next: Maranatha will travel to Perris to battle the California Military Institute on Friday at 5.

The Roughriders (9-6-3) edged El Monte, 4-3, in their first-round contest.
