It wasn’t a thing of beauty, but Tim Godley, his staff and their players will take it.
And so would any coach or program this time of year.
Bonita used a 28-22 run in the second half to outlast Tustin, 44-41, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2A playoffs.
Colton Perez had a game-high 15 points.
Perez went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line, with six of those coming in the second half.
Collin Henry hit a pair of 3’s, and he finished with 14 points.
John Villagrana led Tustin with 14 points.
Johnny Sagarino chipped in with seven points, and Ethan Contreras had six.
Jake Quintana provided 10 points, including two crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
One week after missing 16 free-throw attempts against Glendora in the regular season finale, Bonita went 13-of-18 from the line.
Up next: BHS travels to Ventura on Friday to battle St. Bonaventure.
The Seraphs (21-8) claimed a 59-36 victory over Inglewood in their first-round game.
