Boys Basketball:
If you were at Bonita High School on Wednesday and hoping the Bearcats would win an outright Palomares League championship, you almost certainly went home excited and stunned.
BHS overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter, including a double-digit GHS lead with under three minutes to play to force overtime.
In OT, the Bearcats outlasted the Tartans (14-8) for a 68-62 victory.
It took a 20-8 BHS run in the fourth period just to get to that point.
Josh Kim showed his toughness and put the boys in green and white on his shoulders.
Kim scored a game-high 20 points, 18 of which came in the second half and overtime.
The BHS senior made 12 of his 14 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter and OT.
Colton Perez had just three first-half points, but he finished with 14, including nine in the fourth and OT.
What had to make it even more special for Kim and Perez and their fellow seniors is the fact that Bonita was 0-7 in their last seven games against the Tartans.
Hunter Smith had four 3’s and finished with 12 points.
Smith had two crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that helped Bonita overcome a large deficit.
Colton Gray led Glendora with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Gray’s shot at the end of the third quarter gave GHS a 48-34 lead.
Elijah Regan finished with 10 points and three assists.
Sebastian Demano added nine points, five assists and two rebounds.
Garrett Dykstra sparked the Tartans with nine points and three rebounds off the bench.
You can bet two of the area’s best basketball coaches (Gordon Hamlow & Tim Godley) will have their boys taking extra free-throw shots as they prepare for the postseason.
The Tartans (13) and Bearcats (16) combined to miss 29 free-throw attempts, including many in crunch time.
Up next: Glendora and Bonita will get their first-round playoff opponent this Sunday at noon.

Quotable:
Glendora coach, Gordon Hamlow: “It’s unfortunate that we played so poorly down the stretch, we had played a great three and a half quarters. We need to take care of the ball better, hit our free-throws, and hold to the scouting report.”
