Girls Athlete of the Week:
Marshall Fundamental soccer player Esmeralda Jáquez had a week that many would consider a successful season.
The Eagles senior scored 12 goals in three Mission Valley League games.
On Tuesday, Jáquez scored once in a 3-0 victory over Gabrielino.
Two days later, she netted an insane seven goals in a 10-0 beatdown of Rosemead.
And on Friday, Jáquez closed out the week with four of Marshall’s five goals, as the Eagles claimed a 5-0 victory over South El Monte.
Marshall is now 8-0 in MVL play, and they’ve outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 38-2.
It should also be noted that the MF defense and goalie Kaiya Jota deserve a lot of credit for the success of their program in 2023-24.
