St. Anthony Dominates La Salle, 64-44, in Del Rey League Opener; Saints Hand Lancers First Loss of 2023-24

Girls Basketball:

For the first time in the 2023-24 season, La Salle fell short.

The Lancers headed to Long Beach in Tuesday’s Del Rey League opener, and St. Anthony sent them back to Pasadena with a 64-44 setback.

According to La Salle coach Scott Wiard, and many others, St. Anthony is the real deal.

They had an 11-3 advantage over the Lancers in 3-pointers made, and SAHS boasted seven players who contributed five points or more.

La Salle had three.

Ryann Bennett let St. Anthony with 16 points.

Bennett hit four 3-pointers and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Laila Hughes had 12 for the Saints and Melaiah Joseph added nine points.

Kaden Cortes had two of La Salle’s 3-pointers and she tied for a game-high with 16 points.

Audrey Chen chipped in with 14 points.

And Casey Higgins finished with seven points in the loss.

Up next: La Salle travels to St. Paul on Thursday at 7.
