We’ve gotten so used to the job that Flintridge Prep co-head coaches Kevin Kiyomura (and his cousin) and Jayme Chan have done in maintaining one of the San Gabriel Valley area’s most elite programs, that often times it gets taken for granted.
They have a program full of intelligent student-athletes that focus much more on the student part 0f that equation.
And yet in the last five years alone, the Wolves have won 96 of their 113 games, which translates into an 85-percent success rate.
They’ve won 44 of their last 46 Prep League games, and in 2023-23, the girls from La Canada secured a CIF-SS D-3AA championship.
It seems that every time a star or two graduates, there is another waiting her turn.
And the newest stud over the past year and a half is sophomore Maddie Smith.
Over this past week, Smith and the Wolves cruised to a La Canada New Year’s Eve Ball title by going 4-0, including victories over La Canada, Hart, Crescenta Valley and Granada Hills Charter.
They are now 16-1 and they’ve currently riding a 14-game win streak.
After the Granada Hills Charter game, Smith was named the Tournament MVP.
She led Prep in scoring in each of the four games, and she totaled 85 points.
Thus far, Flintridge Prep has outscored its 2023-24 opponents by a combined margin of 953-565.
