Girls Basketball:

If you asked Rylie Anderson, she would say the 77-40 victory over Burroughs of Ridgecrest was the most important thing that happened on Thursday.

That win boosted GHS’ record to 15-1, and it extended their current win streak to 14 games.

But with 6.8 seconds remaining in the third period, Anderson hit a free-throw that gave her 21 points for the game, and 1,344 in her 100th game as a Tartan.

It also made Anderson the career scoring leader in program history.

Anderson finished with 30 points, and she has 1,353 points and counting.

She converted on 7-of-10 free-throw attempts and hit three 3-pointers.

GHS erupted for 33 second-quarter points, and they took a 45-22 lead into the locker room.

Brianna Gomez continued her excellence with 15 points, including a game-high four 3-pointers.

Addison Martin had 10 points, Reagan Herrmann chipped in with seven, and Rebekah Zweerink scored six in Glendora’s win.

Savannah Rowland led Burroughs with 10 points, and Jhav Ave had eight.

What had to make Thursday’s history-making accomplishment even the more special was the attendance of her parents (Nancy & David) and siblings (Jack, Matt, Morgan and Cameron).

Quotable:

Glendora coach, Adam Nunemaker: “What Rylie has done has been an incredible accomplishment. She has reached such an amazing individual award by being the ultimate leader, teammate and friend to everyone in our program. She is an inspiration to everyone on and off the floor.”

Glendora senior, Rylie Anderson: “It is an honor to be a part of this team that supports, encourages, and loves one another. I’m so thankful for my teammates, coaches and Coach Nuner that have given me so many opportunities. God has been so gracious to me and I’m so grateful to represent Him in everything I do.”

Up next: GHS will face Alemany at 6:30 in the Glendora Tournament semifinal.

The other semifinal pits Pasadena versus Fairmont Prep at 8.

The winner of both games meets up on Saturday at 8.
