Classic at Damien:
If you’re a high school basketball fan, there isn’t a better place to be this week than the Classic at Damien.
The eight-division, 128-team tournament runs from December 26-30.
It’s considered to be one of the nation’s most elite tournaments.
It features programs throughout the state of California, as well as teams from Arizona, Utah and Idaho.
There are 16 teams from the 210 Prep Sports coverage zone, including Etiwanda (11-0), Pasadena (11-1) and Damien (11-1).
The Classic at Damien field boasts six of the state’s top-10 teams, according to the most recent MaxPreps poll.
And that includes N0. 1 St. John Bosco, Salesian College Prep (sixth), Etiwanda (seventh), De La Salle (eighth), Damien (ninth) and Windward (10).
SJB is currently ranked ninth in the nation.
The Platinum Division is a veritable who’s who of California power programs, and they are joined by Owyhee (No. 1 in state of Idaho), Basha (Chandler), which is ranked No. 5 in Arizona, American Fork (fourth in Utah) and Sunnyslope, the seventh-ranked program in Arizona.
The Iron and Bronze Divisions have four 210 Prep Sports teams apiece.
In the Bronze Division, Arcadia, Los Osos, Bonita and Glendora will be in action on Tuesday.
And the Iron Division features Alta Loma, Claremont, Chino Hills and Charter Oak.
