Boys Basketball:
Colton Perez, one of the San Gabriel Valley’s most underappreciated basketball players, has taken his game to the next level over the past few weeks.
Perez averaged north of 20 points in the five tournament games in Hawaii (December 6-9).
And the BHS senior has led the program in scoring in nearly each of their 14 games.
Perez saved his best (thus far) in the Palomares League opener at Colony.
The Bonita lefty scored 42 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 78-58 victory at CHS.
If that wasn’t impressive enough, he went 11-of-11 from the free-throw line.
The Bearcats outscored the Titans, 25-17, in the first period, and 22-11 in the fourth (47-28) to secure their 10th win of the season.
And Perez scored 25 combined points over that stretch.
Josh Kim continued his solid and steady play with 10 points.
Drew Sanchez and Jake Quinta both chipped in with nine points apiece.
Desmond Flangan led Colony with 14 points.
Jackson Cain and Sartaj Singh scored 12 points apiece for the Titans.
Hunter Smith hit a pair of 3’s and finished with six points.
Up next: BHS opens the Damien Classic on Tuesday by hosting Inglewood (4-3) at 8:30.
