Boys Basketball:

Don’t let the final score fool you.

Ayala controlled throughout in its 54-42 victory over Glendora in the Palomares League opener for both programs.

In fact, the Bulldogs never trailed, and it seemed like they got to almost every loose ball and contested rebound.

The game was originally scheduled for AHS, but apparently a padding behind one of their baskets wasn’t up to snuff, and the game was moved to GHS.

Josiah Yang led all scorers with 13 points.

Jeremy Serrano contributed 11 points in Friday’s win, and Christian Martinez chipped in with 11.

Max Hilgenfeldt paced the Glendora offense with 11 points.

Elijah Regan scored seven points, Colton Gray finished with six and Vince Montalbo provided five points for the Tartans.

After racking up just 22 points total in the first three quarters, Glendora outscored Ayala, 20-13, in the fourth period.

Up next: AHS will battle Sonora on Wednesday at 2:15 at the Carlsbad Tournament.

And GHS faces Alameda on Tuesday at 8:30 at the Classic at Damien.
