Tonight, Marshall Fundamental’s wrestling teams earned a split decision, as the boys defeated South El Monte, 52-18, and improved their record to 12-1 on the season.
The Eagles’ girls lost to the overwhelming power of South El Monte, falling, 72-6.
Marshall’s boys team started off the match getting six points from Keen Velasco by way of forfeit, before Mauricio Moreno Jones got pinned by Uriel Martinez in the third period.
With the score now tied 6-6, Marshall surged ahead with two quick pins from Joziah Diaz & Isaac Benivedez to make the score 18-6.
The Eagles gave away six more points as Joe Montoya got pinned by Hector Aguiar at the 144 weight class.
Fortunately, we struck right back, when Diego Martinez earned a quick pin, followed by Xavier Velasquez earning a major decision for 4 more team points.
Marshall led 28-12.
At 165 pounds, South El Monte struck back when Nathan Martinez pinned West Ahearn and the match was again in reach at 28-18.
But Abe Moreno, Rudy Ramos, Gara Mamarian and David Seo ended any hope with four consecutive pins to secure the team victory.
