Boys Basketball:
Bonita welcomed a school from Claremont on Friday night, and the Bearcats went home with a 68-57 victory.
But it wasn’t the Claremont that is a five-minute drive from their La Verne campus.
It was John XXIII College in Western Australia, which is 9,362 miles from BHS.
The game was locked in a 30-30 tie at the half, but the Bearcats outscored their visitor, 38-27, in the second half.
Colton Perez continues to lead the BHS offense.
Perez finished with 26 points, and that included a pair of second-quarter 3-pointers.
Josh Kim chipped in with 12 points and Naasir Ainsworth had 10 points in the win.
Dom Southwell hit four of John XXIII’s five 3-pointers, and he finished with a team-high 22 points.
Ben Morgan and Jacob Bradley both provided 16 points apiece for the visitors.
Hunter Smith hit two 3’s and contributed 10 points.
Up next: Bonita (9-4) opens up Palomares League play on Friday at Colony.
