Boys Basketball:

Make it five in a row.

After securing a Rose City Classic championship on Saturday, Pasadena opened Pacific League play against Crescenta Valley on Tuesday.

In recent memory, no Pacific League program has given PHS a better run for their money than the Falcons.

And while the Bulldogs are hands down the program to beat each season, CV went 12-2 last season, 7-0 in the 2021-22 COVID-shortened campaign, and they shared the Pacific League crown with PHS in 2019-20, as both teams held serve at home.

On Tuesday, Pasadena edged visiting Crescenta Valley, 54-52, and they took a step forward in defending their Pacific League title.

Desmond Every had 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Jovan Jester added 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Gavin Hollins-Law chipped in with seven points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and five blocks.

For CV, Derek Najarian led all scorers with 20 points, as well as five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Vaughn Zargarian contributed 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.

Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Hoover on Friday evening in another Pacific League contest.

The tip is set for 6:45.
