Girls Basketball:
The defending 2022-23 CIF-SS Division 3AA champs finally played their first game of the 2023-24 season on Monday.
And after a slow start offensively, Flintridge Prep cruised to a 50-27 victory over Pioneer in the first round of the Battle at the Beach Tournament.
The Wolves trailed the Titans, 9-8, after the first period, but they would outscore Pioneer, 42-18, the rest of the way.
Maddie Smith led the way with 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Pressley Huie chipped in with six points and three steals.
Addie Lee scored six points, while Hailey Louie, Miya Naruko and Megan Quoch contributed five points apiece.
Artanna Reyes led Pioneer with 13 points and Daysia Almendarez had nine in Monday’s loss.
Up next: The Wolves face Crean Lutheran tonight (Tuesday) at 8:15 in a Gold Division contest at Redondo Union High School.
