Miller & Katzer Combine for 278 Yards Rushing & Four TD’s in Citrus’ 48-34 Victory Over LBCC in Season Finale

College Football:

Citrus College closed the 2023 season on a high note.

The Owls claimed a 48-34 victory over visiting Long Beach in a game that featured 864 yards of total offense.

Citrus won four of their last five games.

In Saturday’s win, LBCC never led, and the closest they got to catching the Owls was a 13-7 deficit in the first quarter.

Citrus scored twice in the first 4:47 of Saturday’s contest and never looked back.

Kannon Katzer and Tayvonne Miller scored on runs of 34 and 68 yards, respectively, to give the Owls a 13-0 lead.

Citrus had a 268-27 advantage on the ground.

Katzer rushed for 129 yards on just 11 carries.

He had TD runs of 34, 37 and 14 yards.

Miller had a game-high 149 yards on 23 carries, including his first-quarter TD run.

Miller also caught a pair of passes for 61 yards.

Koy Riggin was 17-of-27 for 225 yards.

Riggin had TD strikes of 12 and 9 yards to Donovan Zackery.

Jesse Carmona caught four passes for 71 yards.

Erik Saiz had five receptions for 58 yards.

Zackery finished with three catches for 24 yards and the two scores.

As mentioned, LBCC pulled to within 13-7, but that didn’t last long.

On the ensuing kickoff, Brayden Austin returned the ball 92 yards for a 21-7 lead.

Will Madonna completed 21-of-45 for 294 yards for Long Beach.

Madonna threw for five TD’s, and he was picked three times.

Jaquavion Caldwell (47 & 30 yards) and Matthew Berenji (5 & 6) had two TD catches apiece.

Caldwell had five receptions for 105 yards.

Once again, Chandler Carthan led Citrus with a game-high nine tackles.

Hunter Corbin had seven tackles and an interception.

Yilias Wallace picked a pass and had four tackles.

In his final game at Citrus, Drew Merrill had two tackles, including one for-loss.

And Merrill intercepted Madonna and returned it 15 yards.

A special congratulations to the Owls sophomores.

They went 18-3 in their two years at the Glendora school, including the only perfect season (11-0 in 2022) in program history.

That also included an American Metro Conference championship.
