Football:
While everyone talks about Rancho Cucamonga and Damien and other area powers, and rightfully so, there is this school in Chino that has quietly gone 11-0 thus far in 2023.
And on Friday night, the Cowboys scored 21 fourth-quarter points, and dispatched of visiting Long Beach Jordan, 42-22, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs.
There’s no real secret to their success.
Chino gained 304 yards on 40 carries and that included four TD’s.
Diego Ogata carried the ball 18 times for 154 yards and scored a pair of TD’s.
And Nathan Blanco gained 131 yards on 20 carries and two scores of his own.
Ogata only attempted four passes on Friday, and he completed two of them.
In the fourth quarter, the Cowboys were facing a third-down play deep in their own territory, and Ogata would break the Panthers back with a 92-yard TD pass to Sebastian Alvarado.
CJ Gibson made quite the debut on defense.
Gibson, usually the starting wide receiver, had to move to the other side of the ball due to an injury.
And he made the most it by picking a Jordan pass and bringing it back 43 yards for a TD.
Up next: The Cowboys travel to Lakewood to battle Mayfair in the quarterfinal round.
The Monsoons edged Village Christian, 39-38, in their first-round contest.
