College Football:

Mt. SAC did its part in setting up next Saturday’s winner-take-all scenario at Golden West for the outright National Central Conference title.

The Mounties throttled their hosts from Long Beach City College, 70-14, and improved to 9-0 in 2023.

In the last two weeks alone, MSAC has scored 72 and 70 points against OCC and Long Beach, respectively.

Mt. SAC had a 585-311 advantage in total offense.

The only downside on Saturday was a game-high 13 penalties for 129 yards that were levied against the Mounties.

Other than that, it was clear sailing.

Mt. SAC led 35-0 in the second quarter before Long Beach got on the board.

Alex Flores completed 11-of-18 for 189 yards and four TD’s.

The first three scores for MSAC came on Flores TD passes to Dedrek Taylor-Akins from 26 and 40 yards, and a 23-yard scoring strike to Ryan Boultwood.

Branyden Hapner picked off an LBCC pass and brought it back for a 52-yard pick-six.

Flores’ last TD pass of the night was a 37-yard strike to Jordan Williams that extended the Mounties lead to 35-0.

Nicholas Floyd had another monster game.

Floyd gained 176 yards on 12 carries, and that included TD runs of 65 and 28 yards.

Felix Igiri (one yard) and Samuel Green (two) had one short TD run apiece.

Former Bonita quarterback, Sean Jastrab, tossed a 5-yard TD pass to Chase Yerman to close out the scoring for MSAC.

Taylor-Akins had four catches for 99 yards and the two scores.

Williams caught two passes for 49 yards.

For Long Beach, Jett Peddy went 15-of-41 for 171 yards, including one TD and two interceptions.

Hapner had both Mounties picks on Saturday.

Will Madonna also saw action behind center, and he completed 6-of-21 for 65 yards.

Konyae Hunter led the LBCC ground game with 44 yards on 14 carries.

Kenyon Bradley had a team-high six tackles for Mt. SAC, and Juan Salas and Robert Turner had five tackles apiece.

Diego Esqueda went 10-for-10 on extra-point attempts.

Up next: The Mounties travel to Huntington Beach next Saturday to battle Golden West in a conference-deciding showdown.
