Football:
Monrovia secured a share of their fourth consecutive Rio Hondo League championship on Thursday.
The Wildcats claimed a 29-24 RHL victory at San Marino.
The Titans entered their regular season finale as the only RHL program without a league loss and controlled their own destiny.
Monrovia, though, took a 22-10 lead into the fourth quarter, and they held on for the five-point victory.
And they did so on a night their star quarterback got picked three times.
Brian Salazar, who is having a terrific senior season, had only thrown five interceptions all year.
Salazar was 18-of-26 for 345 yards, and he tossed a TD pass to Iziaih Ainsworth.
Davonte Jones carried the ball 10 times for 30 yards, and that included a pair of rushing TD’s.
Joshua Griffiths had a short TD run of his own for the Wildcats, and he picked a San Marino pass on defense.
Noah Ellison had a huge night with eight receptions for 174 yards, and Vincent Paez caught five passes for 112 yards.
For San Marino, Brady Beck completed 23-of-37 for 198 yards.
Beck threw a TD pass and didn’t turn the ball over.
Coleman Morning carried the ball six times for 34 yards and one TD.
Mikey Yessaian caught eight passes for 68 yards.
Sid Danenhauer had five receptions for 64 yards and one score.
Morning reeled in six passes for 33 yards, and he registered two sacks on defense.
Danenhauer picked Salazar twice and Carson Herren had a 100-yard pick-six.
South Pasadena will almost certainly blow Poly out tonight, which means the Wildcats, Titans and Tigers will share the RHL title.
Up next: Both programs will get their playoff opponent on Sunday morning at 10.
