Football:
One week after a disappointing three-point loss at Ayala in the Mountain West League opener, Bonita bounced back and put itself in position to earn a CIF-SS playoff berth next week.
The Bearcats cruised to a 35-0 victory over visiting Alta Loma.
BHS is now 7-2, and they’re literally five points away from being 9-0.
With a victory next week over visiting Charter Oak, Bonita would earn a spot in the postseason.
On Thursday, the Bearcats got three passing TD’s from freshman, Daniel Mielke, and a pair of TD runs from senior, Jayden Montenegro.
Mielke hit Noah Mikhail on a 2-yard TD pass to get Bonita on the board with 4:40 to play in the first quarter.
Mielke went 10-for-11 for 166 yards and the three scores in just two quarters of work.
Montenegro would rumble in from six yards out to give BHS a 14-0 lead.
It was the first of three second-quarter TD’s for the Bearcats.
Dylan Robinson reeled in a 24-yard pass from Mielke and then, with 2:20 remaining in the first half, Mielke hooked up with Ryder Cadam on 39-yard scoring strike and a 28-0 lead at the break.
Montenegro capped the scoring for Bonita with a 61-yard TD run in the third quarter.
The beast, Noah Mikhail, had 22 tackles, and picked a pass in Thursday’s win.
BHS is now 1-1 in Mountain West League games, which ties them for second with Charter Oak (2-7, 1-1).
