College Football:
Early in the second quarter of Saturday’s National Central Conference contest, San Bernardino Valley and Citrus were locked in a 7-7 tie.
The Owls, however, would score the final 35 points of the game and cruised to a 42-7 victory.
The Citrus defense held SBVC scoreless for the final 52:49 of Saturday’s Homecoming game.
There were 23 Owls’ defenders that finished with at least one tackle, and the program snapped its two-game losing streak (Mt. SAC & Golden West) in the process.
On the other side of the ball, Citrus produced 450 yards of total offense, as opposed to just 205 for their visitors.
The Owls ground game ran all over SBVC, and they gained 227 yards on 32 carries.
Kannon Katzer and Tayvonne Miller provided an outstanding 1-2 punch for Citrus.
Katzer carried the ball 10 times for 117 yards, and that included TD runs of 18, 49 and 7 yards.
Miller gained 94 yards on 13 carries, and he scored on runs of 15 and 1 yard.
Citrus had a 227-38-yard advantage in the ground game.
Koy Riggin and Jack Benson were both effective at quarterback.
Riggin completed 13-of-20 for 116 yards.
And Benson went 11-of-16 for 107 yards, and a 4-yard TD to Julian Walker with nine seconds remaining in the first half.
Jesse Carmona had three catches for 69 yards, and Donovan Zackery totaled four receptions for 43 yards.
Chandler Carthan and Alexander Lopez both had game-highs with six tackles apiece.
Jamarius Isaac and Cody Stordahl picked off passes for the Owls defense.
Up next: Citrus travels to Cerritos next Saturday at 6.
