Boys Water Polo:
West Covina is trying to close out the 2023 boys water polo season on a high note.
And they got a solid team effort on Monday.
The Bulldogs easily dispatched of visiting Cathedral, 12-5, in a Valle Vista League contest.
West Covina’s Matthew Munoz exploded for nine goals, which meant he outscored the Phantoms, 9-5, on his own.
But there was far more to the win than just Munoz and his incredible scoring.
The WCHS defense, and in particular, goalie Matthew Ugarte, held the Phantoms scoreless in the first half.
Ugarte finished with a game-high 16 saves.
Caeden Rigby contributed five steals and one goal.
Matthew Vasquez and Adam Elhusseniy chipped in with one goal apiece in the win.
Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Charter Oak on Wednesday at 4.
