Game info from Randy Reams
Football:
It’s with zero disrespect to say that Ayala was overmatched on Friday night.
The Bulldogs hosted Orange County power, San Clemente, who is ranked 17th in the state by MaxPreps to their football stadium.
And the Tritons cruised to 42-13 victory.
San Clemente took a 28-7 lead into the half and improved to 6-1.
Although the game wasn’t overly competitive, Ayala did a number of things well.
And it starts with their ground game.
The Bulldogs rushed for 201 yards on 35 carries.
As usual, it was Marquis Monroe that led the way.
Monroe rushed for 140 yards on 16 carries, and that included a 69-yard TD that got Ayala to within 14-7 in the first quarter.
Jedi Hernandez and Alex Thomas combined for 64 yards on 14 carries.
Maximus Barroso completed 9-of-17 for 97 yards, and he was picked once.
Monroe caught two passes for 10 yards and Hernandez had two receptions for 36 yards.
Drew Amico totaled three catches for 35 yards.
Up next: The Bulldogs host Bonita this Friday at 7 in the Mountain West League opener for both programs.
The Bearcats (6-1) dismantled visiting Sierra Vista, 49-6, last night.
By the way, competing against Southern California powers only helps programs get ready for league and the CIF-SS playoffs, so there is no shame in Friday’s outcome for Ayala.
