Football:
Covina heads into its bye week 6-1, and in reality, the Colts were actually just three points shy of being 7-0.
On Thursday night, CHS cruised to a 48-8 victory at Montclair.
Covina had a 41-8 lead at the half, scored on the first drive, and the rest of the game was played with a running clock.
If Montclair had any hopes of making a comeback after pulling to within 21-8 and having the ball just outside of the red zone, the Colts defense put those thoughts to rest.
Karsen Ulrich hit the Cavs quarterback hard, and Kamran Davis got the interception and ran it back 82 yards for a 28-8 lead.
The CHS defense held Montclair scoreless the rest of the way.
Covina quarterback Jake Duronslet is closing in on the program’s career touchdown mark.
After four TD passes on Thursday, Duronslet is just three shy of Billy Livingston’s 68 career TD’s.
Duronslet tossed a 13-yard scoring strike to Adrian Rachal to extend the CHS lead to 21-0.
Abraham Perez hooked up with Duronslet on TD receptions of 35 and 65 yards in the second quarter.
And it was Duronslet’s 5-yard TD pass to Ryan Munoz on the first drive of the second half that capped the Covina scoring, and gave the starters the rest of the night off.
Joseph Rangel had TD runs of 41 and 5 yards to give the Colts a 14-0, first-quarter lead.
As well as the offense clicked, the Colts defense deserves a lot of praise for shutting down an offense that averaged 30 points per game.
Up next: The Colts will have week seven off, and in two weeks, they open Sierra League play at home against Chino.
