Citrus Valley closed out Friday’s showdown with visiting Ayala on a 14-0 run, and the Blackhawks would hold on for a 35-24 nonleague victory.
Marquis Monroe continued to shine.
The Bulldogs senior gained 117 yards on 14 carries, and that included a pair (13 & 18 yards) of TD runs.
As a team, Citrus Valley totaled 191 yards on the ground, as compared to 190 for Ayala.
Jaden Valenzuela had a 60-yard pick-six to give AHS a 7-0 lead.
Jedi Hernandez carried the ball 13 times for 56 yards.
The Bulldogs had trouble through the air, as Maximus Barroso completed 6-of-14 for 56 yards.
Drew Amico caught four passes for 26 yards.
Nike Lane added a 35-yard field goal.
For Citrus Valley:
Kade Finazzo went 15-of-24 for 274 yards.
Finazzo tossed one TD and one pick.
Dominic Douglas carried the ball nine times for 103 yards and one score.
Quintin Lucas gained 74 yards on 10 carries, and he scored one TD.
Jordyn Harris caught five passes for 138 yards and one TD.
Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Citrus College this coming Thursday to battle Glendora.
The Tartans (4-2) have lost two consecutive games, including Friday’s 24-23 setback at Diamond Ranch in OT.
After pulling to within one point in OT, GHS went for 2 and got stopped shy of the goal line.
