Football:
After a 4-0 start, the Glendora football program has now lost two consecutive games.
But the Tartans didn’t go down without a fight.
Trailing 24-17 in overtime, Simon Zwick’s 1-yard TD pulled GHS to within one of their host.
Glendora’s Decker DeGraaf, who played the role of hero on the last play of regulation, was tackled just shy of the end zone while attempting to score from the wildcat.
Diamond Ranch edged the Tartans, 24-23.
When GHS looks back, five turnovers proved too costly to overcome.
The Panthers took a 7-0 lead when Phillip Macias scored on an 8-yard run at 8:12 of the second quarter.
Glendora finally got on the board late in the third quarter, as Hunter Lemos booted a 19-yard field goal.
Diamond Ranch regained a one-TD lead when Josh Perez converted a 35-yard field goal with 10:47 to play in the game.
With just north of seven minutes left, Glendora caught D-Ranch at 10-10, when Eric Najarro and Tim Johnson connected on a 15-yard score.
Braylon Leal seemed to secure the win for the Panthers, as he scored on a 17-yard TD run with 1:16 on the scoreboard.
But, on the last play of regulation, DeGraaf caught a 27-yard TD pass from Najarro, and the future University of Washington star dragged three defenders with him for the final five yards until he reached the end zone.
Diamond Ranch scored on their overtime possession to take a 24-17 lead when Jaelan Gallegos rumbled in from five yards out.
Shortly thereafter, as mentioned, Zwick scored on a 1-yard run.
But to the credit of Diamond Ranch, they were able to keep DeGraaf out of the end zone this time, to secure the 24-23 victory.
Or so it was ruled.
Najarro completed 19 of 35 for 204 yards and two TD’s.
Najarro was picked three times and lost two fumbles.
DeGraaf caught nine passes for 133 yards and the game-tying score.
Johnson had 36 receiving yards on five catches and one TD.
Zwick carried the ball 15 times for 55 yards and the TD run in OT.
Matt Jordan picked a pass for the GHS defense.
Of the five Tartans’ turnovers, three came in the red zone, including a fumble at the 1-yard line.
Up next: Glendora will host Ayala on Thursday at Citrus College.
The kickoff is set for 7.
