College Football:
Chaffey College remained perfect to start the 2023 season.
The Panthers picked up their third consecutive victory after Saturday’s 57-24 victory at Santa Monica College.
Chaffey outscored SMC in each of the four quarters, and they started both halves on 21-7 runs.
There were a few stats that shout out loud just how dominant the Panthers were on Saturday.
They had a 41-19 minute advantage in the time of possession battle, a 39-13 disparity in first downs, and the Panthers had 421 more yards of total offense than did Santa Monica (224).
And if that didn’t spell out an ass kicking in all capital letters, the 380-15 advantage on the ground certainly did.
Jayson Cortes had a monster day with 240 yards rushing on 31 carries.
Cortes had TD runs of 6, 6, 37 and 2 yards.
Dereun Dortch completed 16-of-18 for 191 yards, and that included one TD pass and an interception.
Dortch tossed a 14-yard TD to Dorion Livingston.
Dortch also had a pair of 1-yard TD runs in Saturday’s win.
Livingston had nine catches for 65 yards, and along with his 17-yard TD from Dortch, he also hooked up with Ian Eveleth on a 6-yard score.
Eveleth had 10 completions in 12 attempts for 74 yards and the one TD.
Corey Cabrales had a big day with nine receptions for 136 yards.
Sean Ivey led the Panthers defense with five tackles, including two sacks.
Santa Monica quarterback Dylan Moreno completed 12-of-24 for 197 yards.
Moreno found Joey Acciardo on a 32-yard TD pass, and he had a pair of 7-yard TD runs in a losing cause.
Acciardo caught four passes for a game-high 145 yards.
Chaffey has now outscored LA Valley, LA Pierce and Santa Monica by a combined margin of 134-40.
Up next: The Panthers travel to LA Southwest next Saturday at 6.
