Football:
In this writer’s view, the St. Francis-Cathedral football rivalry is about as intense as it gets.
There is certainly a respect among the two proud programs, because a great rivalry isn’t worth a damn if both teams aren’t successful.
But there is definitely no love lost between the Golden Knights and Phantoms.
For many years, Cathedral and St. Francis would duke it out until the final regular season game before one or the other secured an Angelus League championship.
Fast forward to September 15th of 2023, and the Cathedral football season took another hit on Friday.
Aside from starting the season 1-3, being in a last-place tie with Crespi, and being outscored by a margin of 166-105, the CIF-SS put out a statement that Cathedral is now on probation, effectively immediately.
I am inserting the announcement in this story, and we’ll keep you posted as more information is released.
