After its offense struggled in last week’s seven-point loss to Long Beach Millikan, the St. Francis football program got back on track in a 45-14 victory at St. Pius.
The Golden Knights improved to 3-1.
They key ingredient in the first two wins of 2023 was a score of John Sanders TD passes to Preston Jernegan.
And that happened to be the straw (nonalcoholic, of course) that stirred the drink on Friday as well.
Sanders threw five TD passes, four of which went to Jernegan.
The Golden Knights tandem connected on TD passes of 25, 4, 6 and 6 yards.
Sanders also hooked up with Julian Navarro on a 4-yard TD.
John Calmette’s 24-yard TD run in the second quarter extended the St. Francis lead to 19-0.
Jamie Lawyer had a pick-six for the Golden Knights defense.
Although it was a convincing victory, St. Francis did struggle in one area.
The Golden Knights made just 3-of-their-7 extra-point attempts.
Up next: The Golden Knights travel to Hesperia next Friday to battle Sultana.
The Sultans (2-2) fell, 15-13, last night, against visiting La Quinta.
