Football:
Rio Hondo Prep took a 31-point lead into the half and claimed a 45-15 victory at El Monte.
The Kares are now 3-0, including a pair of road wins.
RHP had a 393-236 advantage in total offense.
And in a rarity, the Kares had 214 yards passing to just 78 for El Monte.
Yanick Diaz completed 6-of-10 for 191 yards, and that included a 49-yard TD to Nate Curtis, and a 30-yard scoring strike to Joshua Taflinger.
Diaz also had a 1-yard rushing TD.
RHP out-rushed El Monte, 179-158.
Caeden Holcomb had TD runs of 12 and 2 yards.
He carried the ball five times for 44 yards, while Nathaniel Shine gained 38 yards on three carries.
Alex Mustain booted a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter to give the Kares an 11-0 lead.
Brandon Do completed 7-of-20 pass attempts for 78 yards, and that included a 27-yard TD to Noah Munoz in the second quarter.
It pulled the Lions to within 24-7 of RHP with 6:45 to play in the first half.
David Ibarra (12 for 74) and Felipe Taboada (8-for-67) combined to gain 141 of El Monte’s 158 rushing yards.
Calogero Chico and Nate Curtis picked off passes for the Kares.
Zachary Burl tallied two sacks, while Rainn Pollock and Colby Johnson had one sack apiece in Friday’s win.
Up next: The Kares will host Marquez (Huntington Park) next Friday at 7.
