While it might be just week two in the 2023 season, Covina has already made quite a statement.

After the Colts picked up consecutive victories over California (42-0) and South Hills (40-14), CHS hosted unbeaten Diamond Bar on Thursday night.

And Covina would get four total TD’s from quarterback Jake Duronslet in a 42-32 victory over the Brahmas.

CHS closed both halves strong, and outscored DBHS, 35-22, over that stretch.

A 290-49 advantage in rushing yards played a big role in Covina’s victory.

Duronslet completed 14-of-19 for 179 yards.

He threw TD passes to Adrian Rachal (33 yards), Abraham Perez (24) and a 4-yard strike to Joaquin Barragan.

Duronslet rushed for 30 yards on six carries, including a 10-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Joseph Rangel carried the ball 13 times for 118 yards, and Rangel’s 1-yard TD in the second quarter got Covina on the board.

Barragan scored on a 1-yard TD run and garnered 69 yards on eight carries.

Abraham Perez caught seven passes for 81 yards, and Rachal had four receptions for 76 yards.

Diamond Bar’s Quinton Mendoza had a huge game at quarterback.

Mendoza completed 20-of-26 for 304 yards.

He threw three TD passes and wasn’t picked on Thursday.

Mendoza connected with Kai Jenkins on a 10-yard TD, Brian Vu from 30 yards out and he finished his night with a 20-yard scoring strike to Isaac Insuasti.

Jenkins had game highs in catches (8) and receiving yards (138).

Vu had six receptions for 78 yards, and Insuasti tallied four catches for 74 yards.

Covina’s running game helped CHS total 29 first downs as compared to 20 for the Brahmas.
