Maranatha Opened 2023 Season w/a 24-10 Victory at Lakeside; MHS Defense Held Lancers Scoreless in Second Half

The Maranatha football program got out to an early lead in Lake Elsinore, and they went on to claim a 24-10 victory at Lakeside High School in the 2023 season opener for both programs.

MHS began the contest with a 60-yard TD pass from Luke McNulty to Jahmel Reeves, and the Minutemen never trailed.

McNulty completed 11-of-21 for 184 yards and the score.

Beau Stubbs carried the ball 12 times for 41 yards.

Dejohn Jones finished the night with 38 yards on nine carries and a pair of TD runs.

McNulty had four carries for 34 yards.

Reeves caught two passes for 75 yards, including the first quarter TD that got MHS on the board.

Bradley Loiacono had a team-high four catches to go with his 62 yards.

Miguel Vazquez caught three passes for 31 yards, and AJ Campana reeled in a pair of receptions for 16 yards.

Carter Shupper is back and healthy, and the MHS senior had a team-high 11 tackles.

Jacob Neely tallied 10 tackles, while Camden Jones had seven.

Up next: The Minutemen will host West Valley on Thursday night at 7.

The Mustangs (1-0) defeated Pacific, 49-0, on Friday night.

We stayed out of the penalty column for the most part, but we have some work to do in order to make this thing gel. There were a lot of plays in all phases that were close to being great. AJ Campana and Jake Neely really stood out tonight, while Matthew Rhee anchored the O-line with Andrew Massino battling all night.”
