Northview made a loud and impressive statement in Thursday’s 2023 season opener.

The Vikings dominated throughout in a 41-6 victory over visiting Muir.

NHS took a 34-6 lead into the break and never looked back.

Northview had an almost two-to-one advantage in the time of possession battle, and they out-rushed the Mustangs by a margin of 231-18.

On third-down, Muir converted just once in seven tries, while the Vikings extended drives in eight of their 12 opportunities.

Keanu Tauvao and Angel Barraza combined to gain 211 yards and six TD’s.

Tauvao carried the ball 16 times for 134 yards and scored on TD runs of 14, 12, 1 and 18 yards.

Barraza tallied 87 yards on the ground on 19 carries.

He also had TD runs of 1 and 3 yards.

Trailing 28-0 in the second quarter, Muir’s Victor Soto recovered an NHS fumble in the end zone.

The point-after attempt failed, because of a bad snap.

Brandon Valencia had a rough night at QB for the Mustangs.

He completed 6-of-14 for 93 yards, no TD’s and was picked three times.

Valencia led Muir with 17 yards rushing on four carries.

Alexander Miller had two catches for 53 yards and Zion McDonald had a pair of receptions for 20 yards.

Quotable:

Northview coach, Marcel Perez: “I thought our team played well overall. I know there is going to be a lot of mistakes when we watch film tomorrow, but against Muir, our line played tough, our running backs ran hard, and I think our QB surprised. Defensively, we flew around and kept the ball in front of us, and we didn’t give up big plays. We will watch film and make corrections and continue to try and get batter every week.”
