Baseball:
Baseball Census in putting on a 10-team ‘Goodbye Summer’ tournament and it runs Friday through Sunday at Brookside Park in Pasadena, and the University of La Verne.
The teams consist of (mostly) local high school players that are incoming juniors and seniors.
And while some of the athletes have already committed, it gives the others a great opportunity for them to be seen by college coaches and scouts.
Each program (SGV Arsenal, Blue Wave, PFA Matadors, So Cal Dukes, So Cal Bombers 24, So Cal Bombers 25, East Los Angeles Dodgers, BPA, GBG Juggernauts, and the WC Blackdogs) will play two scheduled games, and based off their records and runs allowed, the top four teams will compete in a semifinal, and the two winners will play a championship game on Sunday at 2:30.
The other six programs get a third game on Sunday to close out the tournament.
Andrew Miller from Maranatha, who is already committed to Cal State Fullerton, is expected to get a start today for the PFA Matadors.

I asked a local coach to talk about why they’re competing at this tournament and what the players will get out of this weekend’s showcase.
“The reason we chose this event is our relationship & professionalism with Baseball Census, as well as the venues being used,” BPA coach Wallace Gonzalez said. “The day-one evaluation (on Thursday) was awesome to display their skill set with batting practice and a pro-style infield /outfield was great. The value for my players is they have already impressed the college’s that were watching to bring their head coach out to game one, as well as the opportunity to earn a few (scholarship) offers.”
