Cal State San Bernardino Earns Spot in NCAA D-2 World Series After 8-6 & 14-8 Victories Over Cal State Monterey Bay

Cal State San Bernardino is World Series bound!

The Coyotes earned a spot in next week’s NCAA Division 2 showcase in Cary, North Carolina, thanks to a two-game sweep over Cal State Monterey Bay.

San Bernardino claimed victories of 8-6 on Friday, and 14-8 on Saturday.

On Friday, CSUSB took a 6-0 lead into the top of the fourth inning, and outlasted the Otters, 8-6.

Nate Rohlicek got the loss after surrendering eight runs on eight hits over his 4 1/3 innings.

Rohlicek walked one and fanned a pair of CSUSB batters.

Deshawn Johnson went 3-for-4 with a walk, two-run HR and scored a pair of runs.

Garrett Macias walked, hit a two-run shot and scored twice.

Riley Parker doubled, scored and had an RBI.

Derek Bogh singled and scored.

Jason Shedlock singled, scored and had an RBI.

Giovanni Del Negro scored and had an RBI ground out.

Takuto Kataoka singled twice for the Coyotes.

Austyn Coleman earned the win after going 5 2/3 innings and allowing five runs on 10 hits.

Coleman walked one and struck out four CSUMB batters.

Benny Olguin would earn the three-inning save and allowed just one run on one hit.

He issued three walks and registered six strikeouts.

Chase Lindemann singled and hit a two-run HR for the Otters.

Nico Hartojo went 3-for-4 and scored.

Drew Williams singled twice and drove in a run.

JJ Engman had a solo HR.

Dominic Felice walked, singled and scored.

Kyle Guerra went 2-for-4 and scored.

In Saturday’s game, San Bernardino led 5-3 through five and scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth to pull away.

CSUSB and CSUMB combined for 22 runs and 21 hits, and neither program committed an error.

Chris Tonna was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Tonna walked one and fanned three CSUSB batters.

Giovanni Del Negro went 3-for-4, including an RBI single, a three-run HR and he scored two runs.

Jason Shedlock walked, singled twice, doubled, scored two runs and had one RBI.

Deshawn Johnson walked, singled and scored twice.

Daryl Ruiz drew three walks, singled, scored three runs and drove in one.

Danny Garcia singled, scored and had two RBIs.

Garrett Macias walked twice, including once with the bases loaded and scored once.

Riley Parker went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

Derek Bogh walked twice, singled, scored and drove in a run.

Jake Borst walked with the bases loaded and scored one run.

Dylan O’Connor would get the win, going six innings and allowing three runs on four hits.

O’Connor walked five and struck out four.

Dominic Felice walked, hit a two-run HR and scored twice.

JJ Engman walked and hit a solo home run.

Chase Lindemann singled twice, scored and drove in a run on a sac fly.

Brady Miguel drew two walks, doubled, scored and drove in a run.

Nico Hartojo and Cole Murchison singled and scored one run apiece.

KW Quilici singled, scored and had one RBI.

Jacob Dressler had an RBI single for the Otters.

Up next: San Bernardino heads to Cary, North Carolina.

The World Series is June 3-10.
