Baseball:

Cody New made sure Hesperia Christian would play for a CIF-SS Division 6 championship this weekend.

New went the distance in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory at San Marino.

He allowed the one run on three hits.

New issued a pair of walks and struck out 12.

It took him 113 pitches to finish what he started.

New got eight of the nine San Marino batters on strikes at least once, and he got four Titans twice.

Sid Danenhauer was hit by pitch, singled and had an RBI.

Sebastian Liquori walked and singled, and Kyle Ly’s base hit accounted for the rest of the Titans offense.

Tomas Bilvado got the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits over his 5 2/3 innings.

Bilvado walked a pair and struck out two.

Michael Liquori faced four batters and struck out three.

New singled, doubled and drove in a run to help his own cause.

Logan Day singled and had an RBI.

Caleb Audet singled and scored.

Arlan Koester went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Luke Beasley doubled and drove in a run.

Although they fell just shy of their ultimate goal, San Marino deserves a ton of credit for their perseverance.

After beginning Rio Hondo League play 0-4 (all by one run), the Titans dusted themselves off, claimed an RHL title and made a run to the D-6 semfinals.

Up next: The Patriots will play for a D-6 title this weekend against Castaic.

The Coyotes (23-7-1) defeated Bloomington, 6-1, on Tuesday.
