Boys Athletes of the Week:
The Upland High School boys volleyball program has turned in a 2023 season that has been nothing short of incredible.
Dating back to 2022, the Highlanders have now won 24 consecutive Baseline League matches without dropping a single set.
Unlike 2022, where UHS was swept by Royal in the CIF-SS Division 3 championship match, Upland moved up a division and paved an impressive path to a CIF-SS Division 2 title.
The Highlanders swept Arcadia in the first round, and then defeated Los Alamitos, Orange Lutheran, Redondo Union and Tesoro in four sets.
On Saturday, UHS made history with its 19-25, 25-18, 25-14 and 25-23 victory over Tesoro.
And while every member in a green uniform did their part, Aiden Dufour and AJ Contreras made giant contributions.
Dufour, a sophomore setter, finished with 37 assists and 12 digs.
And Contreras, a junior opposite hitter, provided a match-high 19 kills to go with five digs and a block for the Highlanders.
Up next: Upland travels to Corona del Mar on Tuesday in the first round of the CIF State Division 1 playoffs.
The Sea Kings (21-9) were swept by Newport Harbor in Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 1 title match.
