Baseball:
What a heartbreaking way to end the 2023 season.
Pasadena scored single runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to catch Apple Valley at 4-4 in Tuesday’s CIF-SS Division 5 second-round game.
But AVHS would score five times in the top of the 11th inning and claimed a 9-4 victory at PHS.
The Sun Devils out-hit the Bulldogs, 12-6.
Ryan Martinez went three scoreless and hitless innings for Apple Valley.
He walked three and struck out one.
PHS got two runs (one earned) on three hits over three innings against Beau Lloyd.
And Jesiah Zamora provided five innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
Zamora issued one walk and registered seven strikeouts.
Kaleb Derosier doubled and drove in two runs.
Baylin Brooks hit a solo HR.
Marcus Gonzalez walked and had two singles.
Charlie Ream singled and scored.
Seldon Walker drove in a run on a sac fly.
Rene Salas singled for PHS.
Apple Valley got three runs apiece off Charlie Ream (four innings, five hits, two walks/four strikeouts), Joe Bacon (six innings, four hits, four walks/five strikeouts) and Adrian Oseguera (one inning, three hits, two walks/one strikeout).
Luis Lechuga had a double and two RBIs.
Ryan Martinez walked, singled, scored two runs and had one RBI.
Beau Lloyd drew a pair of walks, singled twice, scored and drove in one.
Noah Celie walked three times, singled and scored two runs.
Jesiah Zamora walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Ethan Cheek went 2-for-6 with a run and two RBIs.
Johnny Lloyd had two singles and an RBI.
Ethan Doyle singled, scored and had an RBI.
