College Baseball:
The University of La Verne officially wrapped up a SCIAC championship on Saturday.
The Leopards claimed a 10-4 victory at Claremont-Mudd Scripps.
It was their first conference title since 2018.
Chase Pederson went 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on five hits to earn the win.
He walked one and struck out three.
Benny Vogel provided 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Vogel surrendered two hits, walked one and registered four strikeouts.
Bryce Didrickson hit a two-run HR in the bottom of the third to give CMS a 2-1 lead.
Paul Roche walked and had an RBI double.
Derek Seneker doubled and scored.
Nick Wilson went 2-for-3, and Mitchell Mashiko singled and scored.
Tyler Shaw drew two walks, singled and scored.
ULV got four runs off Aaron Herst (five hits, three walks & one strikeout) and four more against Andrew Blackett (three earned on five hits, no walks & one strikeout).
Matthew Diaz went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs.
Malachi Francois singled, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI.
Noah Garcia walked, singled and hit a two-run shot in the top of the sixth to extend the Leopards lead to 9-4.
Anthony Salcedo went 3-for-5 from the leadoff spot, walked, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Cam Slessor singled, scored and had an RBI ground out in the top of the first.
Logan Reese walked, singled and scored twice.
Nathan Perry had three singles and scored.
Chase Siffert drove in a run on a fifth-inning sac fly to score Francois.
Up next: ULV earned the No. 1 seed in the SCIAC Tournament and will begin play on Thursday at 3.
The Leopards enter tournament play having won seven of their last 10 games.
