The confidence that one garners from taking an early lead in the CIF-SS playoffs is one thing.
Perhaps even more important, though, is the ability to flush any remaining anxiety and play to one’s capabilities without any fear.
And that was the case for Western Christian.
The Fighting Lancers got three runs in the bottom of the first, third and fifth innings and cruised to a 10-4 victory over visiting Bishop Amat in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.
There were many contributors to Thursday’s win, but what a day it was for Western Christian junior, Marilyn Beauvais.
Beauvais went 3-for-3 with a walk.
She singled and hit two home runs.
Beauvais scored twice and drove in three runs.
Up next: Western Christian travels to Aliso Niguel on Tuesday.
The Wolverines (23-4) shut out La Canada, 7-0, in their first-round game.
WCHS will take a six-game win streak into Tuesday’s showdown in Orange County.
