Baseball:
After winning last year’s CIF-SS Division 2 championship, Etiwanda took its first step forward in this year’s Division 1 playoffs.
The Eagles cruised to a 5-2 victory over visiting Capistrano Valley.
Dylan Goff went six innings to earn the win, and the CSUF commit allowed two runs on five hits.
Goff walked four and struck out four CV batters.
Nico Neri got the last three outs to close out the win, including one via strikeout.
Cody Zippe went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Matthew Radogna singled twice and scored.
Owen Geiss was charged with the loss.
Geiss surrendered five runs on five hits over his 3 1/3 innings.
He issued one walk and registered four strikeouts.
Austen Roellig had a three-run double in the bottom of the second to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.
Anthony Huezo hit a solo home run in the first, and had an RBI ground out in the fourth.
Chris Montes de Oca singled and scored.
Mike Harrison singled and scored a pair of runs.
Tyler McEvoy and Tyler Shigenaka had one double each in Friday’s win.
Up next: As odd as this might be to read, the Eagles won’t even know their second-round opponent until Monday.
That’s when Yucaipa (16-9) hosts JSerra (19-9)
