Baseball:
Northview had an unfortunate and yet somewhat fitting end to its 2023 season.
The Vikings battled their butts off all year, and came up just short.
On Wednesday, in a CIF-SS Division 2 wild card game at Citrus Valley, the Vikings fell, 4-3, in eight innings.
Of their 14 losses, nine came by two runs or less.
NHS got single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
And Citrus Valley would get two in the bottom of the sixth and one more in the eighth for the walk-off win.
Aden Cowie went five innings and allowed two runs on eight hits.
Cowie didn’t issue a walk and struck out one.
Riley Hunsaker got the win after going three scoreless and hitless innings.
Hunsaker walked two and fanned four NHS batters.
Joey Alcon walked twice, singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Dylan Ramos had a single and an RBI.
Dean Curley’s prep career came to an end, but the Vikings senior has so much baseball ahead of him.
Curley walked, singled and scored.
AJ Flores singled and drove in a run.
Sal Batres doubled, and both Issac Nava and Nathan Tome singled for NHS.
Kiki Villegas went seven strong, allowing three runs on seven hits.
Villegas didn’t walk a batter and stuck out three.
AJ Flores got two outs in the eighth before the game winning run scored.
He allowed the one run on one hit and two walks.
Keedan Nadeau went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Nadeau led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and eventually scored on Cody Lemler’s sac fly.
Matthew Bline walked, singled, tripled, scored two runs and had an RBI.
Marc Di Carlo walked, singled and had a pair of RBIs.
Ivan Rodriguez singled and doubled.
